| Greetings. A few quick notes regarding this name generator:
I still have no current plans to open the database for submissions again, although that may change someday.
If you are considering contacting me to ask for the raw code or database for this generator, please be advised that I have a standing policy to say "no" to all such requests. It's nothing personal. You are, of course, free to use the results of this generator however you like (that's why I made it, after all).
Thanks for making this little resource so popular! |

I am happy to report that this site is currently (as of 7/29/04) #1 on Google searches for Star Wars Random Name Generator. Thanks to everyone who helped make this site a success.
Speaking of which, I have added a whopping 2200+ names to the database. I went without updating it for a very long time, so there was a huge backlog. Thank you so much to everyone who contributed. So, there are now over 5,000 entries in the database, almost double what there were before.
However, of the 3000+ names that were submitted, over 800 were either garbage, profanity, grade-school level potty humor, or lame attempts to hack the site. It took me too long to sift through the garbage before updating the database, and I have neither the time nor inclination to play babysitter every time I update. So, with some small regret, I am removing the ability to submit names. I'd say something like "a few people ruined it for everybody," but that's not true; a few losers completely wasted their time, and some of mine, but the site remains a valuable resource. There should be plenty of names to make this site more than useful for the vast majority of
you who are not knuckle-dragging imbeciles.
At some point, if I feel the need, I may re-open the database for submissions, if I've come up with a tool to help weed out all the fools. We'll see. In the meantime, enjoy the generator, and if you have any questions or concerns, you can leave feedback or email me. May the Force be with you.

| Someone came in and donated over 400 names to the database. Thanks, whoever you are, for all your effort. I should put your name up in lights! |

| Added about 28 new names to the database today. Just a reminder; if you're going to submit names to the submission queue, please take a second and make sure you capitalize them. I dumped about ten names today because whomever submitted them couldn't be bothered to hit the Shift key and capitalize the first letters of each name. So please capitalize those names. I really don't want a mish-mash of capital and non-capital names in the database, and I'm afraid it's too time-consuming to go in and correct each one individually, so I just end up dumping them when I see them. Thanks. |

| There are now over 2,000 names in the database, thanks to kind users. I appreciate all your help.
As for the rest of you -- nope, you're still not funny. |

| Added about 95 new names to the database. Thanks to those who contributed. Rejected about 15 "joke" names. Get a life, guys. |

| I have fixed the issues with the variables. The Random Name Generator is once again back on track. Another round of thanks to the people who added another 35 or so names to the submissions queue.
Another bit of news: The "reports" function has been removed. Since I personally approve all submissions to the database now, there is no need for people to report inappropriate names, since they'll never make it into the database -- and the reports file was filling up with names that didn't need to be there. Thanks to everyone who used the feature while it still existed. :) |

| Added about 100 new names to the database. Thanks for contributing! It would have been more, but someone was lazy and didn't bother to capitalize the first letters of the names they submitted, so I had to axe them. Sorry, I can't do the work for you when it comes to those. It's either a "yes" or a "no" for me, and if they're not capitalized, I'm afraid I have to pick "no." Whoever you are, please feel free to re-submit if you like. |

| After a too-long hiatus to fix some programming issues (which took more time than they had any right to), the Name Generator is back in business. Enjoy. |

Over the past few days, some enterprising soul had put well over a hundred names in the database. Thanks, whoever you are! (I wish I'd taken the time when I first put this site together to let people take credit for their names if they wanted -- oh, well. Sorry about that -- thank you anyway!)
And now for a word about the "Skywalker and Solo" issue. A visitor stated in the feedback section that they thought names like Skywalker, Solo, Anakin, Padme, etc. should be in the database. Well, there's a couple reasons I don't approve them.
One, if someone wanted to make up a "Skywalker" or "Solo" character, they can do it without any help from the machine. If you need a first name to go with "Skywalker" or "Solo," you can just pick from the first names.
Secondly, the "reports" function is still working, even though I don't need it anymore (since I approve all the database entries and no longer have to worry about obscene names popping up). Even though it says in the FAQ and the instructions not to report names that they just don't like, people do it anyway -- which is good in its own way, since I get a really good idead of what people don't like. And if there's a "Skywalker" or "Solo" or another mainline Star Wars name in the database, the reports database swells to huge proportions. People don't like it. So I took them out.
So, sorry; no main character names in the random generator. It's just the way it's going to be for right now. At some point, I might add a function to optionally include them -- but not right now. So please don't keep putting "Skywalker" in the submissions queue -- I'm sorry to say I will just nuke it out of hand. But thanks for all your other names! |

| Submissions have been trickling in steadily over the past few weeks. The database has over 1,300 individual names now, and is still growing. Thanks to everyone who helps keep this site going! |

| I've added about 65 new names from the submissions database. There was a slight delay in putting them up, since I had to sort through them and had some work issues that were more pressing. Thanks to those who contributed new names! |

| To avoid further inconveniencing legitimate users of this site, all names submissions will now go into a submissions queue instead of directly into the names database. All names will be approved by yours truly before being available for public consumption.
For those of you who have trouble with big words, this means: don't post junk entries to the database, because no one will ever see them and you're wasting your time.
For those of you who continue to support this site by contributing to the names list, you have my thanks. There will now be a delay between when you contribute names and when they show up in the database. Thanks to everyone who helps keep this neat little utility going. |

| So I didn't check the reports database for a few days, and it seemed that in that time some clever fellow(s) put some obscenities in the database. They're deleted. Thanks to the real users -- keep those reports coming, and I'll keep the database free of useless junk. |

| The database continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Thanks (once again) to all those who have contributed. As expected, a couple of wits have entered some "funny" names into the database, but if real users report them, they are easily removed. So if you see a name that isn't appropriate, please report it and it will be gone before long. |

| As the database continues to grow by leaps and bounds (thank you again!), I have made a couple of new additions to the site. I put the results in a columnar format for easier browsing, made a little report "button" instead of an unsightly link, added a "printer friendly" version for easy printing, and added an option to generate 100 names at one time. I hope you find these little toys useful -- and thanks to everyone for continuing to contribute! |

| Well, the site has been live for just under a day, and already the database has almost tripled in size. Right now, there are about 45, 796 possible name combinations... I'm hoping to make that number a lot bigger. Thanks, everyone, for your help -- and please keep them coming! |

| Since the names database is still quite small, you may get some lame results from the generator. The larger the database gets, the less likely this will become, but the occasional ridiculous result may still come up. When the database grows large enough, I also plan to take out names people are generally not going to get any use out of, such as "Skywalker" and "Solo." Right now, they're kind of filler, but hey, I had to test the thing somehow!
If you are coming to contribute, please note that the database is especially in need of female names right at the moment. Thanks! |

| Well, the names database is still small, but all the bugs seem to be ironed out -- for now. The database is open for new name submissions, so please feel free to contribute. I am also open to any feedback you'd like to provide -- this service is here for SWRPG players such as myself, and any suggestions on how to make it better are welcome.
Please check the FAQ if you'd like to know more, and if anything else comes up, drop me a line. |

| Hello and welcome to the Star Wars Random Name Generator.
This site was created to give Star Wars RPG players an ever-expanding resource of randomly-generated names. As a GM and player of many years, I know it can be difficult to come up with names on the fly. There are a lot of "random name" sites out there to provide help, but I've found that many of them have either a small amount of frequently-recurring names, or just jumble letters together to make names like "Mxlpluy Fganlgeno."
Neither of these have proven very useful to me, so I decided to create a database that other SWRPG players could add to, thus making for an ever-expanding database of character names. My hope is that the database will continue to expand, thus providing a consistently fresh and non-predictable resource of random names for those GMs and players who have a hard time getting inspired.
This site is just getting started, and your contributions are much appreciated. No, not money -- names. Please feel free to click the "add names" link at left and put in a few of your favorites. Characters from the movies are probably not necessary, but your own PCs, NPCs, and names from the EU will be a welcome addition. Thanks for your help. |
